Composting
101 is funded by the Waste Reduction and Pollution
Prevention (WRAPP) Fund
of Manitoba Conservation and was started in March of 2002.
Composting
101 combines the skills and efforts of the City
of Brandon, Brent
Hansen Environmental, Clark Community
Consulting, Westman
Recycling Council and The
Marquis Project. The Compost Action Project of Resource
Conservation Manitoba provides support, resources and
training.
Composting 101 promotes backyard composting
and vermicomposting in the Brandon and Westman community through
presentations, displays, workshops, demonstrations, newspaper
articles, and advertisements in all media.
Composting 101 also works with local schools,
through hands-on presentations and educational tools, to establish
an environmental curriculum that can be expanded to include
all aspects of the 3R’s at any level.
In addition to the aforementioned promotional and educational
activities, Composting 101 successfully partnered
with the City of Brandon Public Works and Parks/Cemetery Departments
and Brent Hansen Environmental to create three local demonstration
sites showcasing the benefits of incorporating finished compost
(humus) in a variety of landscape applications.
